Every summer, the peaceful coastal town of Guardamar del Segura transforms into a vibrant stage for one of the most spectacular traditional festivals in Spain — the Moros y Cristianos celebration. This year, the 2025 festivities will take place from July 18 to 27, with ten days of parades, music, costumes, historical reenactments, fireworks, and much more.
What is Moros y Cristianos?
Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) is a deeply rooted cultural event that commemorates the battles between the Moors and the Christians during the Reconquista — the historical period when Christian kingdoms reclaimed territories once under Muslim rule. The festival is celebrated in several towns across the Costa Blanca, but Guardamar del Segura stands out for the richness and authenticity of its performances.
Expect costumed processions, theatrical street performances, arquebus salutes, spectacular night shows, the emotional L’Encantà legend reenacted by the Segura River, and a strong sense of local pride. The event is organized in honor of Sant Jaume (Saint James), the town’s patron.
